Western States Open Championships - District 9
The Western States Open Championships will be held
August 6th - 8th , 2006
in 4 Queens Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada . LAS VEGAS HERE
WE COME !
Everyone is invited to come to Las Vegas August 6th, 7th, and 8th (Sunday, Monday &
Tuesday) to play or enjoy a reasonable vacation. The Four Queens has again given
us a great rate of only $35 plus tax for two persons to a room! The event:
The Western States Open Championships. Play will start on August 7 (Monday).
Come and enjoy Las Vegas. We need to have as many people attend (players or
non-players) so that they'll give us their best rates again in the future. Bring
the wives, cousins, babies, friends, etc. For those who don't know; Las
Vegas, one of the top tourist attractions in the world, is also one of the least
expensive places to visit. Our rooms are limited so get your reservations in
early by calling 1-800-634-6045 and mention the Checker Tournament.
For more information please contact Gerry Lopez at (951) 695-2499.

Venue Change
Everyone who is planning on attending
the Western States Championship please take note of this venue change.
The tournament will be held at the Las Vegas Plaza Hotel, instead of the Four
Queens. Apparently, the Plaza will be giving an even better rate than the Four
Queens. The phone number for the Plaza is: 1-800-634-6575; tell them you are a
checkers player. The rate is $29.99 per night. The dates for the tournament are
the same. Play will begin Monday morning and end Tuesday afternoon.
This really isn't a big change at all since the Four Queens is less than two
blocks away (and still under the "fremont street experience") from the Plaza. I
will still be staying at the Four Queens hotel to make sure all the stragglers
get to the correct location.
Looking forward to seeing familiar and new faces at this tournament.

(below comments) by Ryon Pronk ACF Forum 8/12/06 & Bob Murr emailed 8/13/06. Sol Kaplan & family represented 3 different
generations at the tournament and provided donuts during the ty. Bob Murr did
an outstanding job as tournament director and referee, in addition to providing
snacks throughout the ty. The Plaza Hotel was a fine venue for this
tournament and everyone had a wonderful time in an extremely friendly
atmosphere.
